We got a brief taste of winter just as spring arrived! A late March snowstorm gave us our only significant snow of the year, and it brought in a big invasion of Common Redpolls. As April and May rolled around, I was filled with anticipation for what birds we might see. A Northern Shrike arrived and scattered everyone at the feeding stations. This spring gave us an abundance of Purple Finches and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. The warblers and other colorful visitors showed up on cue. And the forests are alive with the one of the best sounds there is; the drumming of the Ruffed Grouse. It is a wonderful time of year in Minnesota.
