As I type this on April 19th, we are under yet another Winter Weather Advisory. We just experienced a Blizzard Warning a few days earlier! Winter has yet to loosen its grip on northern Minnesota. While it certainly does not look or feel like spring, we are seeing signs of the change of season. Our first Yellow-rumped Warbler showed up earlier in the week. More Purple Finches are arriving. Common Redpolls have been scarce this winter, and the few we have seen are now heading north. This week brought hundreds of migrating juncos and sparrows, along with a few Rusty Blackbirds. Soon enough we will see wildflowers, green grass, and buds on the trees. But first, we will wait for our snow to finally melt.
