I am a nature and wildlife photographer based in Minnesota. I took up photography in my youth and got my first 35mm SLR film camera when I was 15 to take photos for high school yearbook staff, sporting events, and student reporter duties for the town newspaper. I had the great fortune of being raised by wonderful parents who shared their love of birds, animals, and the great outdoors with me from a very young age. Of course, my interest in photography sparked my curiosity in trying to capture the natural world around me.
Today I am trying to follow in the footsteps of my late father, David, an accomplished art teacher and wildlife photographer. His photography has appeared in such books as Robert B. Janssen's Birds in Minnesota and Jim Gilbert's Minnesota's Outdoor Wonders, as well as the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine. More recently, dad's photos were featured extensively in the 2024 release, The Breeding Birds of Minnesota: History, Ecology, and Conservation by Lee A. Pfannmuller, Gerald J. Niemi, and Janet C. Green. Like dad, birds are my favorite subjects, and everything I do with my photography is to honor him and make images that I think he would be proud of.
My work has been featured in the Cook County News Herald in Grand Marais where I am a contributing photographer. I am a member of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union and a contributor to their website and publications. I was the winner of the 2021 and 2022 Northern Wilds Magazine photo contests in the wildlife division. Several of my photos were included in The Breeding Birds of Minnesota: History, Ecology, and Conservation. My photos have also been featured in Freshwater's Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendars. My goals are to continually learn, grow, and improve my skills while being respectful and giving space to everything in my surroundings. It seems, like most things, photography is journey with no specific destination. I look forward to seeing where that journey takes me.
