October and November are always months of fast transition. Vibrantly colored leaves seem to fall in the blink of an eye. The last of the warbler migration moves through, followed closely by various sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, and Snow Buntings. The Ruffed Grouse were particularly active this fall with the males busily doing their displays to establish their territories. Nomadic flocks of Bohemian Waxwings swoop in to feast on the abundant mountain ash berries. And, in a sign that winter will soon be upon us, our resident birds start returning to the feeding stations with greater regularity.
